Not Ready or Able to Adopt............
VOLUNTEER!
Volunteer Possibilities at
The Trenton Animal Shelter
1. Dog walking. Our dogs are housed in kennels and the volunteers walk them daily. During the week they are walked between 12-1. On weekends they are walked from 9-11. You would have to go at these times and shadow an experienced dog walker until you learned the process. In order to walk dogs, you must complete an orientation that is done by appointment only. No one should ever show up at the shelter unannounced. To schedule and orientation email Joanne@theshelteranimalproject.com.
2. Cleaning the kennels. The kennels are cleaned by the Animal Control Officers in the morning. The volunteers help with the cleaning though especially if they get dirty after they are cleaned the first time.
3. Housekeeping. Washing the food/water bowls, loading the washer/dryer, folding towels, sweeping floors, emptying trash, cleaning up around the outside.
4. PetSmart Adoption events. On Sundays from 12-3 we take the shelter dogs to Pet Smart in Fairless Hills, PA (220 Commerce Blvd) and hold them so people can meet them and hopefully adopt them. The Animal Control Officer drives the dogs to and from Pet Smart and you would hold it and answer questions from people.
5. Bathing the dogs. We have a dog tub for the dogs to get baths in the back of the shelter. They always need baths!!!
All volunteer positions require shadowing an experienced person until you learn the procedure. Our volunteers come when then can and we all work together. For PetSmart we send out a weekly email asking who is available. You only reply if you can make it.
In order to volunteer you must be at least 18 years old – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Shelter weekend hours are 9-11am only.
